The spectators on Court Phillip Chatrier witnessed another super energetic performance by Spaniard Rafael Nadal yesterday. In a straight set victory, Nadal beat Robin Soderling 6-4, 6-2, 6-4, in 2 hours 18 minutes. It was like a champion boxer who just jumped into the ring and knocked off the Swede in three short lasting rounds. The last year finalist showed no resistance into the match. In fact, the Swede might have disappointed his many fans with the meek performance, as the expectations was continuously riding high, particularly after the astonishing demise of the first seed Roger Federer in the quarter final.
Yesterday was a Rafael's show, flexing his muscles at every corner. But the story was little bit different at the begining with giant Swede touching 204 kmph on average 1st serve, on contrary Nadal served 174 kmph the same. As the match progressed, nerves of Soderling set in to jitter, and the unforced error continue to increase. The high-spinning giant serves continue to be inconsistent. This is where the four times champion's experience came into play. Being famous for rallying his opponents to every corner of the court with fisted fore-hand and double handed back-hand punch, Nadal brought out all the weapons from his arsenal. The high time of the match came when Nadal saved four break points in the second game of the second set. That include the superb fighting off when he sprinted forward at the net right from the deep of the baseline and make the shot through, eventually winning the rally. That had shaken the confidence of 6ft 4inches Swede.
Having won the 5th French open and 7th Grand slam, including Wimbledon and Australian open, Nadal set to regain the much glorified top spot in the WTA rankings. Once Rafael Nadal got the world number 1 position; Roger Federer's streak of No. 1 for 285 weeks nearing end. That's another feat for the champion Spaniard.
